Five Dollar Friday Returns: Big Racing, Small Price at Can-Am
The 2026 season opener at the Can Am Speedway in Lafargeville New York was exciting as ever last Friday night with plenty of familiar faces in victory lane, plus one driver who picked up the biggest win of his young career.
Elgin Ontario’s Brennan Moore took top honors in the opening day event at Can Am for the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTCar Sportsman division, which was also the opening leg of the DIRTCar Sportsman North Regional Series. Moore grabbed the lead from early pace setter, defending track champion and reigning DIRTCar Sportsman Central Region champion Gavin Eisele on lap 18. Moore had a strong car and was able to fend off Kingston Ontario’s Jessica Power to score his first ever series win. Power crossed in second with Alexandria Ontario’s Tristan Ladouceur third making it a Canadian sweep of the top three spots.
Jordan McCreadie looked strong at the start of the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modified 25 lap feature event. McCreadie lead the opening 12 laps of the race until 4 time and defending track champion Tim Fuller used a restart to make his way around McCreadie on the outside lane for the top spot. From there Fuller would drive away to his third opening day win at Can Am and 50th Modified win at the speedway good for third on the all time list. McCreadie ran a strong race come home second ahead of last year’s opening day winner Jackson Gill.
Josh Verne Jr. came into the night as the four time and defending track champion of the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Car division and used the momentum from last year to charge from third to grab the lead on lap 2 from early pace setter Tucker Donath. With the race going caution free, Verne would drive away to over a straight away lead to grab his second career opening day win and 19th Crate Sprint Car win at Can Am. Andrew Hennessy charged to the runner up spot at the finish with Donath crossing in third.
Mason Rogers burst on the scene last year in the Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman and won four times, tied for the most of all drivers. On opening day of 2026 he continued that form by surviving three restarts in the 15 lap event to grab the opening day win and 5th Limited Sportsman win at Can Am. Mohawk invader Stephen Bushey came home a solid runner up followed by veteran Mike Durham. Rogers also would grab a win in Limited Sportsman Sunday night at Utica Rome.
Corey Valade led all 15 laps of the Sundance Leisure Thundercar feature last Friday night at held off a determined Jock Symonds, who was looking for his first ever opening day win at the speedway. It appeared Valade had pulled off back to back season openers, however a post race technical infraction would drop Valade to the tail of the field, giving Symonds his first season opener at Can Am. Jared Gilson would move to second followed by 2023 track champion Francis White.
This weekend is a good time to come to Can Am as it is Five Dollar Friday this weekend with all five divisions on the card which include the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modifieds, Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTCar Sportsman, Panther Frameworx Crate Sprints, Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman and Sundance Leisure Thundercars.
