Can-Am Speedway Roars into Mother’s Day with Streaks and Storylines to Watch
Two weeks complete and two great weeks of racing in the 2026 campaign at the Can Am Speedway in Lafargeville New York. Last Friday night the teams and the speedway beat the weather and the racing was exciting.
Defending Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modified track champion Billy Dunn took one step closer to the all time Modified win record at Can Am, with his first win of the season and 71st Modified win of his Can Am career. Opening day winner Tim Fuller closed in on the leader but came home second. Jackson Gill turned in another solid run coming home third. Fuller comes into this week with a 10 point lead on the defending track champion.
Another exciting Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTCar Sportsman feature saw another defending track champion take the win. Gavin Eisele took the lead from early race leader Eric Nier on lap 8 then survived late restarts to secure his first win of the year and 9th win at Can Am. Tyler Stevenson fought his way to second, with Eric Nier crossing in the third spot. Only 10 points separate the top four in points heading into the weekend.
Josh Verne Jr. has been dominant to start the season in the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Car division and this past Friday was no different. Verne took the lead from Mark Webb and drove away from the field to claim his second straight win and 20th at Can Am. Ken Klinkowski crossed in second ahead of Adam Turner. Verne leads the way by 16 points over Andrew Hennessy after the first two events.
Domination has been the theme in the Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman and the star of the show has been Mason Rogers. The 11 year old Lafargeville New York driver continued his hot streak in the division with a dominant win, his second of the season this past Friday night and 6th of his career at the speedway. Lyle Robinson crossed the line in second ahead of Cayden Graham who outran Stephen Bushey for the third spot.
Kevin Greenfield and Corey Valade had a spirited battle at the start of the 15 lap Sundance Leisure Thundercar feature. Greenfield took the lead and then dealt with last week’s winner Jock Symonds in the closing laps, for his first Can Am win. Symonds and Valade completed the podium. Symonds holds a 14 poin advantage over Jared Gilson.
Things to keep an eye on this weekend:
- Will Josh Verne Jr. and Mason Rogers continue their hot starts to the season and get their third straight feature wins in the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprints and Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman?
- Two different winners in the first two events for the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modified, Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTCar Sportsman and Sundance Leisure Thundercars. Will we see a third different winner in each division this week?
Join us this Friday night to find out!
This Friday night it’s all about Mom as it is the annual Mother’s Day weekend with all five divisions on the card with the first green flag dropping at 7pm.
