Rogers, Greenfield, Dunn, Eisele, and Verne Score Big Wins as Can-Am Outruns Weather
Even with the threat of bad weather Friday night, the Can Am Speedway would not be stopped as all five divisions were able to get their features completed before weather could disrupt the program. The racers were also blessed with a great race track, which made for some great racing on the night.
Mason Rogers has been the driver to beat in the Donath Motor Worx Limited Sportsman across the Northeast in 2026. On this night he started on the front row of the 15 lap features and was the dominant force once again. Rogers took the lead and pulled away from Lyle Robinson and Stephen Bushey in the early laps. With Rogers in control and Robinson trying to keep pace, the best battle on the race track was for third between Bushey and Cayden Graham, with Mike Durham close behind in 5th. At the checkered flag Mason Rogers was too much for the field as he scored his second straight win and 6th of his Limited Sportsman career at Can Am. Robinson would cross in 2nd ahead of Cayden Graham, Stephen Bushey, Mike Durham, Hayden Howard and Jason Rarick.
Kevin Greenfield is known for his talents on the asphalt but in the Sundance Leisure Thundercar 15 lap feature, he proved he could get it done on dirt as well. Greenfield took the lead from early pace setter Corey Valade with last week.s winner Jock Symonds right there to challenge. These two drivers put on a show as they battled hard for the lead with Valade not too far away. As the laps wound down Symonds did all he could to grab the lead away, but it was not meant to be as Kevin Greenfield would go on to his first Can Am win in the Sundance Leisure Thundercar division. Symonds would hold on for second with Corey Valade third, Tony Frezzo came from 10th to finish 4th, while Francis White charged from 11th to complete the top 5.
Billy Dunn set the pace early n the 25 lap Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modified feature over Matt Caprara and Shaun Shaw. Dunn went to work right away pulling away from a quality field on this night and would build up a straight away lead in the opening 8 laps. Behind him, Caprara, Shaun Shaw and Tim Fuller, put on a great battle for position as they all tried to catch the leader. On lap 13 Remington Hamm slowed to a stop on the front stretch bringing out the yellow. This gave the field another opportunity to make a race out of it, but when the green flew so did Dunn as he drove away from the field again, while Tim Fuller would make his way to the runner up spot. Over the closing laps Fuller would close the gap on the leader, while behind him Chris Raabe was marching forward in the Brinklow Racing ride, as he made his way to the top 3. Fuller would make it close but he couldn’t catch Billy Dunn, who claimed his 71st career Can Am Modified win, just to away from tying 10 time Can Am Champion Pat O’Brien on the all time list. Fuller crossed the line in second ahead of Chris Raabe, Matt Caprara and Jackson Gill.
After a 4th place finish in the season opener one week ago, Gavin Eisele was on the charge to the front, but Eric Nier was the driver in charger, leading early over Eisele and Tyler Stevenson. Nier was in control running the bottom of the speedway, but Eisele knew he had to get something going on the high lane if he wanted to win this race. On lap 8 Eisele would get by on the high side of turn four to grab the race lead. With 10 laps to go Keegan Nier and Paul DeRuyter tangled in turns 1 and 2 which brought out the yellow. When the green flew Eisele again took the lead but the fast drivers were trying their best to close in. Stevenson, Nier, Murtaugh and Corcoran were keeping each other honest. Up front Eisele was pulling away and despite the rest of the field giving it their all, it was not enough. Gavin Eisele would go unchallenged for his first win of the season and 9th of his Can Am career. Tyler Stevenson, Eric Nier, Richard Murtaugh and Tyler Corcoran would complete the top 5.
Josh Verne Jr. was on a mission in the 20 lap Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Car division Friday night. Verne took the lead at the drop of the green flag with Mark Webb, Andrew Hennessy, Adam Turner and Ken Klinkowsky. Verne would check out on the field but behind him Klinkowsky, Turner and Hennessy were all locked into a great battle for the runner up spot, which Klinkowsky would keep to the finish. Verne ran away with the race by over a straight away and without help from a caution flag, Josh Verne Jr. would not be denined, scoring his 2nd win in a row and 20th in the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprints at Can Am. Ken Klinkowsky, Adam Turner, George Sanford and Andrew Hennessy rounded out the top 5 finishers.
Next week at Can Am it’s the Mother’s Day Special with racing in all five classes, with the first green flag dropping at 7pm next Friday.
