Derek Webb Catures First Victory At Can-Am Speedway Friday Night

By: ADAM CORNELL - LAFARGEVILLE, NY - It was a night of first victories at Can-Am Speedway, Friday Night, headlined by Derek Webb of Brownville, NY in the number 66W blue and white machine. Webb had to climb his way up from an eighth-place start to wrest the lead away from Jack Meeks with just six laps remaining in the twenty-five lap Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modified feature. Taylor Caprara, of Watertown, NY challenged for the lead, but Webb walked away from the field in the final laps to net his very first victory at Can-Am Speedway in his budding career. Caprara had to be satisfied with a second-place finish, while current points leader, Tim Fuller charged up from a 21st place start to take third place at the drop of the checkered flag.

“After everything this year, all the motor breaks and everything, it was great to get the win. I was biding my time there, waiting and waiting for a chance, and I finally got it there at the end, Webb said from victory lane.

It was another first in the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcarSportsman Modified feature as Gavin Eisele of LaFargeville, New York managed a last lap pass to score his first victory of the year at Can-Am Speedway. On that final lap, Franklin Mackin, of Russell, New York, was leading and looked sure to win. As Mackin and Eisele raced into turn three, the Skyler Greenfield car slowed and looked like it was about to peel off onto pit road rather than get lapped. Mackin misjudged what Greenfield was doing and ran into his back bumper, spinning Greenfield out on pit road and forcing Mackin back two positions. This allowed Eisele to take the victory with Mike Fowler of Fulton, New York taking second place.

In victory lane Eisele gave an almost apologetic shrug as he talked about the victory.

“It was just the luck of the draw. We had a good car, and we were running the same line [as race leader Mackin], and I wasn’t going to try anything late, but you know, it went our way,Eisele said.

Logan Chrisafulli, of Oswego, New York, notched his first ever victory in the Panther Frameworx 602 Crate Sprint Car feature. Chrisafulli won his heat race earlier in the night and started the feature in second position. Chrisafulli took the lead fairly quickly and had full control of the race until the final laps as Luke Stewart, of Sydenham, Ontario Canada, challenged for the lead. Stewart wasn’t able to find a lane to pass and Chrisafullisped across the finish line for the win.

Owen Nier added a second victory to his season in the Donath Motor Worx Limited Sportsman feature. Nier had familiar company as Keegan Nier was in a close second place and forced him to work for the win.

In the Marsha Gibbons TLC Real Estate Thunder Car feature, another first time winner took the checkered flag, as Jock Symonds claimed his first victory of the season to close out the night of racing.

The night of excitement was sponsored by Bob Johnson Auto Group, located on outer Washington Street in Watertown, New York.

Racing returns to Can-Am Speedway Friday, June 17th with a complete show of six divisions of racing hitting the track.
