Champions of the North: 2025 Can Am Speedway Titles Sealed and Celebrated

The top drivers in all five divisions at Can Am Speedway were honored Saturday night at the 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel in Clayton New York. A full house of drivers, teams, crew members, family and friends all gathered for the celebration honoring the top drivers from 2025.

Tony Frezzo was at the top of the leaderboard when the checkered flag flew on the final points night for the Sundance Leisure Thundercars. Frezzo used a very consistent approach to the championship in 2025 with two feature wins on the season and 13 top 5 finishes. He was close to the winners circle on numerous occasions with 6 runner up finishes. This was Frezzo’s 2nd championship in 5 seasons having claimed his first title back in 2021. Corey Valade was second in the title fight with an impressive 8 wins on the year with Jared Gilson taking two wins last year to finish 3rd in the championship fight, with David Rasmussen and Colby Hibbard the top 5.

In the Donath Motor Worx Limited Sportsman division two of the rising stars in auto racing led the division with 4 feature wins. Lafargeville New York’s Mason Rogers and Watertown’s Genavieve Bartlett shared that honor in 2025. Rogers also set the record as the youngest feature winner in track history at age 11 on June 20th. Other drivers who went to victory lane in 2025 included Caleb Howard who won on June 13th and July 25th. Several others claimed a victory last year, including Eymarah Bowman (May 30th), Brianna Murtaugh (August 8th), Patrick Kudrinko (June 6th) and Jackson Welling (August 29th). Other honors went to Mike Durham who claimed a pair or runner up finishes on May 16th and July 18th, while Jason Rarick scored a season best 6th place effort along with 6 top 10 finishes.

Another year in the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Cars and a record 4th consecutive track championship for Josh Verne Jr. The all time win leader at Can Am with 18 wins in the division, took three trips to victory lane on May 16th, July 18th and August 15th. His season was also highlighted by 8 wins in 11 starts at Brockville in 2025 to claim his first Crate Sprint title on Canadian soil as well. Verne claimed the championship at Can Am by 6 points over Bruno Richard who also score three wins in 2025. Tucker Donath used consistency and finished 3rd in the championship. Andrew Hennessy claimed 3 wins including his 100th career feature win on June 13th, which landed him 4th in title hunt while rookie Nick Webb won his first career feature on June 6th to round out the top 5. Another highlight was veteran George Sanford who returned to victory lane for the first time since a Pure Stock win on July 1st of 2000 at Can Am. Sanford went to victory lane twice on May 30th and August 29th.

History was made in the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTCar Sportsman division in 2025. Lafargeville New York’s Gavin Eisele joined his Grandfather Bill Eisele Sr. and Father Bill Eisele Jr. as a Can Am Speedway track champion. Eisele only visited victory lane once last year on June 6th, but was at the front of the field at the checkered flag nearly every week, to stay in front of title rivals Richard Murtaugh and Jessica Power. Eisele also ran full time on the DIRTCar Sportsman Series again last year winning the Central Regional title and finishing 6th in the overall championship. Richard Murtaugh also had a great season in his first full time outing at Can Am. Murtaugh scored four wins including the DIRTCar Sportsman Series race in September and also was impressive across the Northeast in 2025, with 12 wins across 6 tracks including the Great Lakes 75 at Oswego at Super DIRT Week. Murtaugh already as a win in 2026 at the All Tech Raceway in Florida. Jessica Power also had a solid year finishing in the top 5 every week. The Kingston Ontario native also ended a 6 year winless drought, with her only win at Can Am on August 8th. She also ended the year on a high note winning the World Short Track Championship in November at Charlotte. Much like Murtaugh, Power also claimed a win at All Tech in early February to start her 2026 season. Filling out the top five was Watertown New York’s Tyler Stevenson, who had another consistent season and with a little luck on his side could have been a threat for the championship. Stevenson won twice on June 13th and August 1st to finish 4th in the standings. Eric Nier went winless in 2025 but he also was very consistent all season long finishing 5th in points, with a best finish of second on May 16th. Nier also scored 8 top 5s and 10 top 10 finishes during the year.

Watertown New York’s Billy Dunn was once again back on top of the mountain in the Whitesboro Plowshop DIRTCar 358 Modified division. Dunn was honored at the banquet for his 7th Modified track title and did so with a mid season charge scoring wins on June 20th and July 11th. Dunn also went to victory lane on July 25th and August 1st. The 4 victories also put him at 70 career Modified wins at Can Am, just 3 away from tying Hall of Famer and 10 time track champion Pat O’Brien. Dunn also claimed a track title in 2025 at the Fulton Speedway. Lance Willix of Theresa New York also had a solid year and led the points standings for a number of weeks. Willix claimed two wins at Can Am including the coveted Summer Starter for a second straight season. Willix was also a regular competitor on the DIRTCar 358 Modified Series finishing 4th in points and for a third straight year, won the Hoosier Racing Tire 358 Modified Weekly Racing Championship, with 8 overall wins. Tim Fuller, the 4 time and defending champion, found himself in the third spot at season’s end at Can Am. The Watertown driver with 49 wins in the Modifieds at the speedway, claimed two wins on the season despite having some struggles during the year. Fuller’s two wins came on May 16th and August 15th to move him into third on the track’s all time win list. Ryan Bartlett may not have had the start he wanted in 2025 but a new motor combination lit the fire once again as he ended a near three year winless drought with his first of two wins on June 6th and added a second trip to the winners circle on August 8th. He scored 10 top 5s and 12 top 10 finishes last year. Philadelphia New York’s Shaun Shaw also ended a long winless drought that dated back to September of 2022. Shaw claimed his first of two wins on June 13th then came back later in the year on August 29th to score his second of the season and third career Modified win at Can Am. He also scored 7 top 5s and 12 top 10 finishes.

The staff and Management at Can Am would like to thank the teams, Sponsors, drivers, crew members and fans for your support in the 2025 season and look forward to seeing you all again, as season number 52 kicks off in just a couple months with the Thunder on the Thousand Islands weekend April 10th and 11th.

An open practice session is slated for April 18th, with the Nasty Track of the North Season opener ready for green on April 24th.
