Mother Nature Strikes: Can Am Speedway Postpones Thunder on the Thousand Islands Weekend
With persistent snow and rain over the recent days and cold temperatures expected for the rest of the week, staff and management at the Can Am Speedway in Lafargeville New York and officials with World Racing Group and DIRTcar Northeast, have made the difficult decision to postpone the Thunder on the Thousand Islands weekend.
Weather has been none too kind on the North Country over the recent days and with wet grounds already at the speedway, the tough decision to cancel was made early this week to allow teams and drivers plenty of time to make alternate plans and those who may not have been set to go racing, that extra time to be fully prepared.
The two-day show was to feature the season opener for the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series on Friday night along with the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman and the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Cars. Saturday the Super DIRTcar Series was scheduled to be in town along with the opener for the DIRTcar Sportsman North Regional Series and the first of two Ron White Memorial races for the Sundance Leisure Thundercars.
Officials at Can Am and DIRTcar Northeast, have rescheduled the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series event to Wednesday July 2nd, which is scheduled to be the 29th annual Pabst Shootout, which will see a big field with big names for one of the premier events at Can Am. The DIRTcar Sportsman North Regional Series race will be run during the 2025 season opener on April 25th. The search for a make up date for the Super DIRTcar Series race is still being decided.
For Can Am, an open practice session is scheduled for April 19th in all divisions, with the official 51st season opener planned for April 25th, with the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modifieds, Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman with be the official kick off for the DIRTcar Sportsman North Regional Series, Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman, Panther Frameworx Crate Sprints and Sundance Leisure Thundercars all in action.
