Track titles were on the line this past Friday night at the Can Am Speedway and despite small delays from Mother Nature and electricity, the show went on and some great racing took place to close out the regular season for 2025.

Caleb Howard led the field to green in the 15 lap Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman with Hayden Howard and Jackson Welling right there to challenge. Howard had a fast car but on lap 5 smoke showed from his car, resulting in a caution flag ending his night early. This left young Jackson Welling in control of the field when the green came back out. Welling was in total control of the field as Brianna Murtaugh and Genavieve Bartlett tried their best to run him down. At the finish it was Welling scoring his first Can Am win in the season finale for the division. Brianna Murtaugh, Genavieve Bartlett, Mason Rogers and Steve Bushey rounded out the top 5.

Shaun Shaw dominated his heat race earlier in the night for the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modifieds and was looking to do the same in the 25 lap event, charging out to a big lead early on with Scott Webb and Lance Willix in tow. On lap 17 however the big lead, three seconds to be exact, that Shaun Shaw had, all went away as the yellow flew for Addison Bowman who spun in turn 4. This brought the top drivers in the points including Billy Dunn, Lance Willix and Tim Fuller on Shaw’s back bumper as the green flew once again. Even with a shot at the leader, the rest of the field was no match for Shaw as he pulled away again, but behind him Willix, Dunn and Fuller put on a great show for position. Dunn, who was looking to lock up his 7th Can Am Modified title, would move past Willix for second while Fuller also managed to get by to move to third. In the end Shaun Shaw had everyone covered on this night and charged to his second win of the year and third of his Can Am Modified career. Billy Dunn crossed in second, which was plenty good to lock up his 7th Can Am title. Tim Fuller finished third ahead of Lance Willix and Ryan Bartlett.

Gavin Eisele, Richard Murtaugh and Jessica Power came into the night separated by just 28 points and all were seeking their first Can Am track title. When the green flew Richard Murtaugh was on the move and wasted no time coming from 8th to 2nd in just three laps. He then took the lead away from Greg Henry and began to run away from the rest of the field. Even a caution on lap 5 for Steve Roberts who blew a right rear tire, would not stop him, as Murtaugh again pulled away on the restart, but Gavin Eisele was also charging forward taking second away as he looked to keep Murtaugh close, while Jessica Power battled to hang on to a top 10 spot as the laps clicked off. On lap 12 mother nature moved in with a small shower, but track crews stayed with it and kept the track in good shape, allowing the field to go back to green. Even after the delay it didn’t stop Murtaugh’s dominance as he pulled away from Eisele while Tyler Stevenson put on a late surge charging to third in the closing laps around Eric Nier. In the end it was Richard Murtaugh getting win number three of the season. Gavin Eisele came from 14th on the grid to finish 2nd to lock up his first track title and join his dad and grandfather as Can Am Speedway champions. Tyler Stevenson, Greg Henry and Eric Nier completed the top 5.

Only 10 points separated three time and defending track champion Josh Verne Jr and Bruno Richard in the battle for the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint car title. On this night it was George Sanford stealing the spotlight as he jumped out front with Tiger Chapman on his back bumper and looking for the lead. Sanford had a fast car and was running hard while title contenders Richard and Verne ran third and fifth. Sanford had a strong car and was pulling away until lap 8 when Nick Webb slowed with a problem in turn two. This did not phase the Two Sport Phenom, as Sanford once again began to check out on the field as Tucker Donath put on a late charge towards the front taking second from Chapman, but still had work to do to catch Sanford. This season George Sanford ended a winless drought of 25 years, he waited 2 months, to come back for his second win of the season Friday night. Donath scored another runner up finish with Tiger Chapman third, Bruno Richard crossed in 4th and Josh Verne Jr. claimed the 5th spot which was good enough to secure his 4th straight track championship, still the only champion in the division’s history.

The night concluded with the 15 lap Sundance Leisure Thundecar division and Tony Frezzo had a lock on his second track championship by taking the green flag and did so by leading the field into turn 1 and 2 with Corey Valade on the charge to second. Valade had a fast car and was able to get by the newly crowned track champion as Francis White kept pace in third. Even with the track title, Tony Frezzo could not stop mechanical failure as he broke in turn 1 ending his night early. On the next lap Francis White also broke while running second. When the green flew on lap 10 Corey Valade was in charge as he pulled away from Justin Pope in the final laps to secure his division leading 8th win of the year and 4th consecutive. Justin Pope, Jared Gilson, John Lamarche and Colby Hibbard rounded out the top 5.

The 51st season at the Can Am Speedway will continue with one last weekend of action as the Showdown in September will kick off Friday night with the 2nd annual R.D Hutchinson Memorial for the Super DIRTcar Series along with the DIRTcar Sportsman championship tour and a special show for the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Cars.

Saturday night we honor two legends of the sport and at Can Am Speedway. The annual John Burr Memorial for the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTcar Sportsman will be on hand plus the Ron White Memorial for the Sundance Leisure Thundercars, which fans cane expect a great car count for both races. Also on the card will be the third and final appearance for the Empire Super Sprints, Dylan Swernik and veteran Shawn Donath won the previous two events this year and the action will be exciting for the season finale.
