Trenca Finally Gets Season Rolling with Debut at Selinsgrove
Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (April 21, 2015) – Although Joe Trenca didn’t produce the result he wanted during his season opener last Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway, he’s happy to have the 2015 season underway.
Following two straight weeks of delaying his first race of the year, Trenca kicked off the season by drawing a high number in the pill draw. That lined up the Mucci Motorsports sprint car seventh in a heat race on the tough track.
“The track was really narrow,” he said. “There was no passing in the heat races.”
Trenca finished where he started in the heat race, which lined him up 19th for the main event.
“The track was kind of hard to pass on,” he said. “Starting in the back you’re in dirty air and the track slicked off pretty bad. There were a lot of guys fast on the bottom and a lot of guys fast on the top. If you weren’t extremely better than them it was hard to get by them.
“We were up to 14th or 15th and with about five laps to go we had to come in because we were running out of fuel. As soon as I pulled in there was a caution so we were able to get back out there and pass a couple of cars.”
Trenca ended with an 18th-place result.
He is set to make his Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints season debut this weekend during a New York doubleheader. Trenca will compete on Friday at Can-Am Motorsports Park in LaFargeville and on Saturday at Mohawk International Raceway in Akwesasne.
“We’ve ran good at Can-Am,” he said. “The last couple of times we’ve had speed and been consistent. We haven’t been to Mohawk since probably 2012. It’s one of my favorite tracks so I’m looking forward to getting back there as well.”
